Chrysalis – Sep 2015

Denise ChumleySeptember is a busy, busy month for Chrysalis. We have two journeys this month and would love to see everyone be a part of one or both weekends and be a blessing to the young people who will be in attendance. Donna Burt and her team are ready to love on the 21 Caterpillars (so far) that are signed up for Young Women’s Journey #37, September 3-6. Please be in prayer for these young ladies as well as the team that when Jesus shows up, lives will be changed forever. If you have never attended a Chrysalis Candlelight, I would encourage you to come to St. Joseph’s Church Saturday night. And I promise you will have your socks blessed off!

Jason Lindeman and his team are also working very diligently getting ready for Young Men’s Journey #29 which will be September 17-20. The team is just about set and they are excited to see where God will take this Journey. Be in prayer for the addition of so many more Caterpillars to be signed up, we have to have an overflow to the January Journey! And just a reminder, all the Chrysalis Journeys are all on a scholarship basis and there is no cost to send a young woman or man on a Chrysalis weekend. If you have questions on how to get an application or scholarship form, please let me know and I will get you the information.

I mentioned this last time, but I wanted to, again, put a bug in your ear about our Annual Scholarship Dinner. It will be held December 12 at the Bayer Crop Science Museum of Agriculture. It is come and go from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 and you have a choice of Prime Rib, Pork Loin or Steak with all the fixins, drinks and entertainment. I realize Graduation is that weekend also, but what better way to feed family & friends that have come into town, than to take them to a great meal while helping to replenish our scholarship fund. Please see any Chrysalis Board member for tickets or more information. All funds go directly into our Scholarship fund for future Journeys. I thank you in advance for your support.

It is that time of year again, where the reins of leadership for the Chrysalis Community will change hands. Kim Smith will be the new Lay Director starting this month, and it could not be in better hands. Being the Chrysalis Community Lay Director this past year has been an amazing experience. I’m really not that good in front of people or organizing anything. But with God’s help and the help of great people, this past year was a snap. Please continue to pray for the Llano Estacado Chrysalis Community, the board and everyone involved in this ministry. That it expands and exceeds anything that we here on earth can expect. It has been an honor and a privilege to have served in this capacity, and will always be a wonderful experience to look back on!

Again, if you have any questions about Chrysalis, please let us know and I will do whatever we can to get them answered.

Chrysalis – August 2015

Denise ChumleyAugust is once again upon us and the first day of school is just around the corner. Whether it is kindergarten or stepping onto a college campus and everything in between, there is a certain excitement and expectation of the coming school year. I think we all have that excitement and expectation when it comes to a Chrysalis Journey or a Walk to Emmaus. Some of us know what to expect, but it is always a new and refreshing thing to encounter Jesus again and again in “the same only different” way. I pray that we can all keep that excitement going long into our Fourth Days after we have been involved in working a weekend. There is nothing like it for sure!

Donna Burt is hard at it, getting her team ready for upcoming Young Women’s Journey #37 on September 3-6. Jason Lindeman is also working very diligently getting his team together for the Young Men’s Journey which will be September 17-20. Team meetings have begun and we have caterpillars already signed up. But what we’d really like is to have a waiting list for the January Journeys. Remember that the Chrysalis Journeys are all on a scholarship basis and there is no cost to send a young woman or man on a Chrysalis weekend. If you have questions on how to get an application or scholarship form, please let me know and I will get you the information.

It’s never too early to be thinking about Christmas and all that goes with that time of year. I want to put a bug in your ear about our Annual Scholarship Dinner. It will be held December 12 at the Bayer Crop Science Museum of Agriculture. It is come and go from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 and you have a choice of Prime Rib, Pork Loin or Steak with all the fixins, drinks and entertainment. Please see any Chrysalis Board member for tickets or more information. All funds go directly into our Scholarship fund for future Journeys. I thank you in advance for your support.

Chrysalis – July 2015

Denise Chumley“Let freedom ring” is heard a lot this time of year, as we celebrate the birth of our nation. We also hear “Freedom isn’t free” a lot as well. If it was not for the sacrifice of those who have served, and continure to serve, our country for more than 200 years, we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that we do today. Thank you does not seem adeqate enough for what we enjoy, but thank you.

Jesus has also paid the ultimate price so we may be free. Free from the grips of sin and slavery to the world. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” John 8:36. When I think about how unworthy I am to have been given the gift of eternal life, it’s overwhelming. I hope that as we celebrate our nation’s freedom, we can stop and remember our freedom in Jesus as well, and look forward to eternity with Him. Thank God that there’s “freedom in the blood”!

The Chrysalis Community applied for a Community Grant awarded by Betenbough Homes earlier this year, and I am absolutely thrilled to announce that Chrysalis was awarded a $9000.00 grant to go directly to our scholarship fund! We cannot thank Betenbough enough for their continuing support of Chrysalis and what we’re all about! If you are in contact with anyone associated with Betenbough, please let them know how much we appreciate them and their support!

Donna Burt is still getting things situated for Young Women’s Journey #37 coming up September 3-6. Please continue to lift her and her team in prayer as they start meeting together and gearing up to bless the socks off the young ladies that will be in attendance. Praise God we already have 15 caterpillars signed up and are looking forward to 15 more, so get your applications in and we’ll get your girls signed up!

Again, if you have any questions about anything Chrysalis, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or any other board member and we will get you answers. I hope you all have a happy and safe 4th of July holiday.

Chrysalis – June 2015

Denise ChumleyWell, we’ve managed to make it to June and it seems like 2015 is flying by! As I saw somewhere recently, there are only 31 more Fridays until Christmas! Puts the rest of the year in a whole new perspective. At our last Chrysalis Board meeting, we talked about how busy everyone seems to be these days. Seems like there is no more “summer” that some of us more experienced folks can remember. Work. Church camps. Sports camps. Band camps. Mission trips. 4-H camps. The list can go on and on.

When was the last time we just stopped and just sat with God? Not necessarily through studying or reading, but just spending time with Him. I know the demands of our daily lives can overwhelm us to the point we think we just can’t do one more thing. Maybe if we got our answers from God before we start to do what we think we have to, we might be able to say no a little more often. I know I am guilty of that so much more often than not, but I am trying.

That being said, we are still looking for a Lay Director for the Young Men’s Journey coming up September 17-20. Please pray for us as a Board that the right names will be brought to mind, and that after sitting with Jesus, there will be an undeniable YES to start the process for the 5 young men that have already signed up for this Journey. From team selection through the first team meeting to be covered in prayer that these young men will be blessed, as we all were, with an experience like no other.

September 3-6 will be Young Women’s Journey #37 with Donna Burt at the helm. She is in the process of forming her team and would appreciate prayers for the right people to be put in place to love on the caterpillars that will be there. As of last count, we have 15 ladies signed up already so we are off and running.

Please be in prayer for more caterpillars to be placed on your hearts to bless with a Chrysalis experience. Applications as well as scholarship forms can be found on the website or get in touch with me or any other board member, and we’ll get them to you.

Again, if you have any questions about anything Chrysalis, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me or any other board member and we will get you answers.

Chrysalis – May 2015

Denise Chumley2015 is almost half way over. Seems like we were wishing everyone a Happy New Year just the other day. It’s crazy how fast time seems to go when we’re all so busy with this, that or the other.

“Be still, and know that I am God!” is one of those verses that seems so simple. If we could slow down and actually live this verse on a daily basis, maybe we could enjoy the time that is flying by a whole lot more knowing that God wants to be a part of our lives. Finding the time to “be still” seems to be the elusive task. Maybe sticky notes placed strategically throughout my house and desk will help with remembering that. I hope and pray that it will.

Chrysalis is in between Journeys for the time being, and I would encourage everyone to pray for a renewed interest in Chrysalis and what it can mean for our young people. We have had to place the High School Flights on hold for now due to a lack of Caterpillars. The last Young Men’s Journey did not happen due to timing and other factors. It hurts our hearts when we have to call a Journey because there weren’t enough young folks signed up. These young people are the future leaders of homes, families, businesses and yes, even government. Chrysalis is one of many tools that can be used to help ensure that these leaders have the foundation of Jesus Christ to make decisions in life that will inevitably affect us all. I hope that you will join the Chrysalis Board in praying that we will soon have waiting lists for our Journeys and many more lives will be transformed by the experiences had on a Chrysalis.

Again, if you have any questions about Chrysalis, please let me know and I will do whatever I can to get them answered.
