From the Desk of the Lay Director – Nov. 2020

Hello Community,

I pray you all are doing well and staying safe.  We are doing well and we’re enjoying the cool fall weather.  Tell me, what happened to fall?  Maybe it is coming back for a while, but our tomato plant, Canna and other plants froze and are in the dumpster.  We have numerous tree limbs that are broken and some on the ground.  We did not lose power but lost our internet and TV.  If you are still without power, I pray it will be restored soon.

The scripture I would like to share this month is Psalm 100, 1-2,4 “Make a joyful shout to the Lord, all you lands!  Serve the Lord with Gladness; Come before His presence with singing”.  “Enter into His courts with praise, Be thankful to Him and bless his name.”  As you attend your church or attend Community, worship Him in spirit and truth. Worship Him daily. He is worthy!

The men’s walk November 19th through the 22nd is moving forward.  Please start registering your pilgrims.  Unless there is a huge reversal in the Covid-19 virus, we will be strictly following the CDC requirements for social distancing and wearing masks.  I know of two walks close by (not at Mercy Center) that did not social distance or wear masks and they have had an outbreak of Covid-19.  Two we know went to Candlelight and one has tested positive.  I know it is frustrating to have to do these requirements, but it IS necessary.  We had a Kairos Outside last month at the Mercy Center and we followed all Covid-19 requirements and NO one tested positive.

Thanks so much to all who have made donations to the Mercy Center in our matching funds donation.  We are most grateful. We have received just over $2,400.00.  If you have not made a donation yet, please pray about it and allow the Lord to show you how much to give. Remember what you give is doubled with matching funds. “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.” Luke 6:38 NIV

Our next Community Meeting will be Thursday, November 5th at Generations Church at 5201 University Avenue.  The meeting will be at 7pm and no meal will be served.  Please social distance and wear your mask.  You can wave, fist bump or elbow bump rather than shake hands.  Please attend and let us worship together. There is plenty of room to social distance.

Hello Community,

I pray you are all doing well!! We are doing well ourselves and really enjoying this cool fall weather. It is a very nice break from the 100 degree temperature. Hopefully, we will have a long fall and winter doesn’t come roaring in soon. However, we really do need rain. The sprinkler system is keeping my grass semi-green, but the field behind my house is almost just dirt. Pray for rain!!

The scripture I would like to share this month is 2 Corinthians: 5:17

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away, and look, new things have come.

This is the scripture that Della Taylor used as her scripture for the Kairos Outside last weekend. I was the kitchen team leader and we had 9 women attend. It was a great retreat and God showed up and touched these ladies in a special way. It was really a challenge with the Covid-19 restrictions, and all the room changes that had to be made at the last minute to meet those requirements and to make everything special for the ladies, but we made it through.

The women’s walk October 22nd through the 25th has been postponed. A new date will be set at the next board meeting. The men’s walk that is scheduled for November 19th through the 22nd is on schedule. The Lay Director will not be able to work the walk due to the scheduling problems, but Mark Meurer and I with possibly one other previous lay director will pull it together. Several of the men scheduled to work also have conflicts, so if you would like to help with this walk, please call Mark or I so we can get the team filled. Due to the Covid restrictions we will be social distancing and following proper protocols to keep everyone safe. Please get you pilgrims scheduled. Please pray for this walk.

Our next Community Meeting will be Thursday October 1st at Agape United Methodist Church. 1215 Slide Road. No meal will be served. Please come at 7pm and let’s worship together.

Hello Community,

I hope everyone is doing well!! We are well and I like to say blessed and highly favored. At least I pray that for the highly favored part. Are we ever going to have a break from this heat and lack of rain? I have a friend that when it was dry he started praying for rain and always carried an umbrella with him. Maybe we all need to start praying for rain and carrying an umbrella.

The scripture I would like to share is Mathew 22:33-39. Jesus said to him.

“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind”. “This is the first and great commandment.” “And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

The Kairos Outside is moving forward with their weekend September 25th thru 27th. We are making a lot of changes to self-distance and keep everyone safe. Please pray that the 17 ladies that have committed to attend will have the peace of God and feel safe to attend. We will be praying over the team at the September 3rd Community meeting.

The Women’s Walk October 22nd thru 25th is on schedule and moving forward. Please pray for the team that they will have wisdom and knowledge to make changes as necessary to keep everyone safe. Start praying for pilgrims that you might send on this walk.

Tamera Stewart has accepted the position as the Music Coordinator. Please let her know if you or your group would like to do music for our Community Meetings as she puts them together. We haven’t had a walk since March so we are looking for musicians to lead us in worship.
Our next Community Meeting will be September 3rd at Indiana Avenue Baptist Church in the Student Building. No meal will be served. Van and Leslie Shaw will be doing the music. Please attend and let’s worship together.

Hello Emmaus Community!!

I pray everyone is staying healthy and blessed.  We are doing great and we are blessed for sure.  It is great that the temperature has dropped to double digits and cooling down in the evenings.  What a great community meeting we had in July! The music and fellowship were wonderful.

The scripture I would like to share is Philippians 4:6-8, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God:  and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding will guard you hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.    Finally  brethren , whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praise worthy-meditate on these things.”  If you watch the news, there is only fear and panic.  Put all your trust is Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

It is unfortunate, but it was decided by the board that Women’s Walk 154, August 6-9 had to be cancelled due to concerns over Covid-19.   It was with great sadness.  The team for this walk has been moved to August of 2021.  Please pray with us that the walks on our schedule for the rest of this year will take place as scheduled.

A few weeks ago a friend of ours in New Mexico was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and sent home under hospice care.  She was not a believer. Bonnie and I discussed and prayed over the situation and decided to make a quick trip to our cabin, praying for one last chance to talk with her about Christ.  We requested prayer from many friends and headed to New Mexico.  God prepared the way and Bonnie was able to lead her in prayer. It was a beautiful example of God’s Prevenient Grace.  After the prayer, she drifted off to sleep and passed 4 days later.  When God gives you an opportunity to be a witness to someone, don’t pass it up, even if it is inconvenient and a 12 hour drive round trip.

Our next Community meeting will be August 6th at Canyon United Methodist Church, 217 Farm to Market Road 1729.  The Board meeting will be at 5:45 with the Community meeting at 7pm.  There will not be a meal.  I hope to see you there.  May God richly bless each one of you and keep you in His almighty hand.
