From the Desk of the Lay Director – July 2021

Llano Estacado Emmaus Community

I pray you all are doing well and have not had flooding issues with all the rain we are getting.  Thank you, Lord, for the rains.

July is upon us. This year is halfway over and seems to be going fast.  We have been busy with small trips here and there and other than flat tires on our RV all has gone well.  Every time we had a flat, some one stopped and helped us change it.  Praise the Lord for that.

Women’s Walk #153 was last weekend and from the ladies’ testimonies God touched them in a special way. The Banquet was beautifully decorated, and I could tell the Ladies were surprised and enjoyed it. It was a little funny as I watched the luminaries being set up for Candlelight and moved 3 or 4 times. The last time was the best set up because the pilgrims stood by the luminaire with their name on it for the service. By putting the names on both sides, the sponsors know where their pilgrim will stand. There were light sprinkles as Candlelight was ending, but no one got wet. Closing was awesome and the sponsors got to watch it on the big screen in the annex with overflow in the Chapel.  All the sponsors and overflow were able to take communion at the same time as the pilgrims.

This month’s Community meeting will be Thursday July 1st at Lakeridge United Methodist Church in the basement at 4701 82nd Street.  The babe chick meeting will be at 5:45, with the meal starting at 6 pm and the Community Meeting will be at 7:15 pm.  This will be a potluck meal, so please bring a dish to share.  Come fellowship and worship our Lord and Savior with us. Let’s welcome our new Babe Chicks into our community.

Emmaus Walk update

Hello Llano Estacado Emmaus Community

Hope you are all doing well! The men’s walk was awesome, and the pilgrims who came to community answered the two questions during the meeting. Everyone was blessed by their testimonies. The men are already setting up their own reunion groups. This is just a note to let you know the procedures for the upcoming Women’s Walk June 24th through June 27th. The lay director, Dawn Moore and her team are excited and enthusiastic to work this walk. It will be a great walk; I am sure the “Best Walk Ever”Send off will be outside the patio. The sponsor will drop off their pilgrim at the sliding door and a team member will take them to their room and then return them to outside the patio. Then it will be handled as usual, calling their name to go in the patio. The sponsors hour will be held in the dining room. Please enter through the kitchen door down the ramp. Please be cautious and respect others with masks and social distancing when inside the Mercy Center.

Candlelight will be held in the grassy area on the south side of the building. We will not have the community part of the meeting with communion but will have our candles and sing to the pilgrims as usual. Be sure the town you live in is on the list. As the pilgrims sing to us, we will walk in front of them and exit toward the patio and the parking lot outside the kitchen. Please everyone come to candlelight. Let us have the grassy area filled with the community and so many candles that it is almost daylight.

Closing will be held on the patio. The sponsor only can enter through the Meditation Garden door and go down the hall to the conference room and can watch closing on the television. We are limited on the number we can allow in the conference room so overflow can gather in the Meditation Garden where we will have audio only. Please, still bring your pilgrim to the next community meeting to give their testimony during community. It is the sponsors obligation to bring their pilgrim to the first community meeting after the walk.

Community will be at Lakeridge United Methodist Church 4701 82nd Street in the basement. I am excited to announce we will be having potluck and fellowship. So, please make your favorite dish and bring it to share with the community. The babe chick meeting will be at 5:45, with the meal starting at 6 and Community starting at 7:15. The youth room was almost full this month so let’s fill it at the July 1st Community Meeting. I hope to see you there.

Good morning Llano Emmaus Community,

I pray you all are doing well and had a great Memorial Day weekend remembering those that gave their all for our freedom. We experienced Hebrews 13:1-2 “Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to show hospitality to strangers, for by doing so many have entertained angels without knowing it.” We hope to be able to pay it forward.

We went to Amarillo for an AKC dog agility show.  Taffy, our rescue dog (a Border Terrier/Cairn Terrier) made her debut in the Open class and had her first qualifying run with a 2nd place.  Bonnie and she have worked extremely hard to get to this point. On Sunday, I found we had a flat tire on our travel trailer.  I called Good Sam roadside assistance but on Sunday on a holiday weekend, getting someone out to change it was impossible.  So, other RVers came over and helped us change the tire.  I purchased a new tire as the spare.  Monday morning, as I was hooking up to head home, it was pouring down rain. I realized the tire behind it had about 12 lbs. of air in it.  So, a friend in the dog club had an air pump and we aired it up.  It was the last of the original tires and I could see it had cracks in the side wall from the weather.  We went to Walmart, but it was packed with customers and a long wait.  We made the decision to try to make it home with that tire, praying all the way that it would hold up.  It did and we made it home.  God is so GOOD and takes care of us in our time of need. He also sends others to help us.

Our June Community Meeting will be this Thursday June 3rd at Lakeridge United Methodist Church, 4701 82nd street in the basement.  The babe chick meeting will be at 5:45. We will have a bring-your-own meal and drink at 6:00 pm and the meeting will start at 7:15 pm.  We will plan on having a potluck meal at the July meeting.  I for one am looking forward to it.  Please plan on attending and let us worship our Lord and Savior together.  We will have our July meeting as scheduled on July 1st.

May God bless each one of you in a special way.  I am looking forward to seeing you on Thursday.

Hello Llano Emmaus Community,

I pray you are all doing well. I had a bit of a scare week before last. I could tell my heart was beating fast. My Fitbit which is not always right showed my heart rate was 144. I went to the Heart Hospital and their equipment showed my heart rate was 165 pm. They managed to get it down to 124. The next morning it was all over the place, 124, 110, 84, etc. I had lots of friends and family praying for me. The nurse came in around 1:15 and asked if I had been told that my heart went back into normal rhythm at 12:30 pm. It has been normal ever since. They did the electrocardiogram, and my heart was normal. My blood work and enzymes were normal so the sent me home. It was a spiritual attack to try to keep me from working the Kairos Outside the next weekend, but God would not let it prevent me from working it.

At the Kairos Outside last weekend, God showed up and touched those ladies in a special way. It was a great weekend.

This month’s Community meeting will be Thursday May 6th at Lakeridge United Methodist Church at 4701 82nd Street. Brown bag meal at 6 pm. Bring your own meal and beverage and fellowship with all your friends in Emmaus. Masks are optional but please consider wearing one the protect each other. Community meeting will be at 7:15. Please come worship with us.

The following are the walks that are coming up.

  • Men’s Walk 107 – May 13 – 16 at Mercy Center
  • Women’s Walk 153 – June 24 – 27 at Mercy Center

Please be in prayer for these walks and sign up for agape.

Thanks,

Hello Llano Estacado Emmaus Community,

Well, today is April Fools Day. I hope you have not been fooled. Of course, there are all the old tricks, like in a large office, giving someone a phone message to call Mr. Lion with a number to the Zoo. Since I have worked out of my home office for the past 16 years, and am now retired, I have not had anyone but my wife to try to fool and she isn’t very gullible. I pray you are having a wonderful week.

I watch David Jeremiah every Sunday morning and his messages have been “Moving from Fear to Fear Not.” His messages have been inspiring. So, the scripture I want to share this month is one I have shared before: Isaiah 41:10: Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

The following is a list of walks that are coming up:
Men’s Walk 107 – May 13-16
Women’s Walk 153 – June 24-27
Women’s Walk 154 – July 15-18

Please get your pilgrims signed up for these walks.

The following is a weekend for Kairos Outside
Kairos Outside 20 – April 29 – May 2

We are praying that the upcoming Men’s and Women’s walks will be at The Mercy Center. The Kairos Outside Weekend will be at The Ark in Amherst.

Please be in prayer for these walks and weekends and furnish agape. Please plan on attending send off, candlelight, and closing and show your support.

We need to fill the following positions:
Fund Raiser Coordinator
Pray Vigil Coordinator

Please be in prayer and if you feel that one of these positions is a fit for you, notify one of the board members.

Our next Community Meeting will be April 8th at Lakeridge United Methodist Church 4701 82nd Street. Bring your own meal and drink and socialize with all your old friends at 6 pm. Babe Chick meeting will be at 6 pm. Community Meeting will be at 7:15 pm.

Lakeridge United Methodist Church has graciously put our community on their monthly schedule. We will be having our Community Meetings at their church the rest of the year. This is a tremendous blessing as it is exceedingly difficult to find a church that will allow us to meet. Not because we are a bad group, but due to the virus pandemic.

Well, since the board decided that myself as the Community Lay Director and the remaining board will stay in place for another year, you will have to put up with us another year and that is not an April Fools joke. It has been a struggle all year to have Community meetings and walks. I guess they think I have not had enough experience, so they want me to stay on. The board has been great to work with and I am looking forward to an easy year!!

May God richly bless each one of you in a special way and may you prosper you to be in health.
