From the Desk of the Lay Director – Sep 2018

“Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”  Isaiah 40:31.

“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 15:13.

I paint ceramics on most Fridays.  We get to meet and visit with friends and paint.  But how many pieces of ceramics can you dust in your house?  The owner of the shop came up with a standalone cross with cut out words.  I love doing crosses with “Hope” on them.  I started doing “Joy” crosses.  They are simple to paint. No elaborate or very detailed pieces. One color or two.  I can paint and talk at the same time.  But the beauty of these crosses, I have given every one of them away.  I do not paint any of them with someone (except one) in mind.  But as I finish one, I run into someone who needs a boost, a smile, or a listening ear.

I do not think that I will solve the problem of world peace.  I do not think I will find a cure for cancer.

Probably, most of us will not.  But we can make the world a better place.  I was cleaning out a box and came across some leftover agape pieces.  The one I liked the best “Be the change you wish to see in the world.”  A penny was attached to the card.

Do what you can to make the world a better place and the people you meet happier.  As a pastor friend of mind said:  “The Jesus in me loves the Jesus in you.”

Share the gift of your Emmaus experience with others, enabling God’s gift of grace to be passed on.  The fact that the Emmaus experience passes from person to person reflects the relational nature of God and the manner in which God purposefully reaches out to people through people.

If you are not in a reunion or an accountability group, please consider joining one or starting one.  Find one that best suits you.
