Happy Fall! I pray everyone is getting back into the swing of things. Fall is here and with that comes change. I want to thank Denise Chumley as the Chrysalis Community Lay Director and Winfield Davenport as the Chrysalis Spiritual Director for their leadership this past year. They have hearts of gold and hearts for Christ. Mark Miller and I have huge shoes to fill. Thank you Denise and Winfield!
As I write this, October is just a few days away and our middle son’s wedding is only 12 days away, so if this greeting is a bit wonky you know why! This is a first in our lives, a child getting married. What a blessing to see your children grow and start new seasons of their lives. I believe that is why chrysalis is so near and dear to my heart. Young men and women need the blessing of Chrysalis. They need Christ to guide them in the college age season of their life. We had the opportunity in September to bless many of them. Donna Burt led the young women and Jason Linderman led the young men. It was awesome to see God work in the lives of these young men and women. Thank you Donna and Jason for answering God’s call.
Please be in prayer of someone God wants you to ask to be a part of the upcoming Chrysalis in January. Remember there is no cost to send a caterpillar on a Chrysalis. So please don’t let that hinder you from asking a young person to a Chrysalis. Kayla Watson and her team are preparing for the Chrysalis that will be held January 7-10. Trapper Burris is preparing and seeking God while putting together a team for January 28-31. Thank you Kayla and Trapper for answering God’s call. We already have several caterpillars ready to go, so as I said before, be in prayer about who God wants you to ask.
As Denise mentioned this last month, but I wanted to remind you again about our Annual Scholarship Dinner. It will be held December 12 at the Bayer Crop Science Museum of Agriculture. It is come and go from 5:30-9:00 p.m. Tickets are $30 (please remember this is a fund raiser) and you have a choice of Prime Rib, Pork Loin or Steak with all the fixings, drinks and entertainment. I realize Graduation is that weekend also, but what better way to feed family & friends that have come into town, than to take them to a great meal while helping to replenish our scholarship fund. Please see any Chrysalis Board member for tickets or more information. All funds go directly into our Scholarship fund for future Journeys. I thank you in advance for your support.
Fly with Christ,
Kim Smith
September is a busy, busy month for Chrysalis. We have two journeys this month and would love to see everyone be a part of one or both weekends and be a blessing to the young people who will be in attendance. Donna Burt and her team are ready to love on the 21 Caterpillars (so far) that are signed up for Young Women’s Journey #37, September 3-6. Please be in prayer for these young ladies as well as the team that when Jesus shows up, lives will be changed forever. If you have never attended a Chrysalis Candlelight, I would encourage you to come to St. Joseph’s Church Saturday night. And I promise you will have your socks blessed off!
August is once again upon us and the first day of school is just around the corner. Whether it is kindergarten or stepping onto a college campus and everything in between, there is a certain excitement and expectation of the coming school year. I think we all have that excitement and expectation when it comes to a Chrysalis Journey or a Walk to Emmaus. Some of us know what to expect, but it is always a new and refreshing thing to encounter Jesus again and again in “the same only different” way. I pray that we can all keep that excitement going long into our Fourth Days after we have been involved in working a weekend. There is nothing like it for sure!
Well, we’ve managed to make it to June and it seems like 2015 is flying by! As I saw somewhere recently, there are only 31 more Fridays until Christmas! Puts the rest of the year in a whole new perspective. At our last Chrysalis Board meeting, we talked about how busy everyone seems to be these days. Seems like there is no more “summer” that some of us more experienced folks can remember. Work. Church camps. Sports camps. Band camps. Mission trips. 4-H camps. The list can go on and on.
