Chrysalis Jan. 2017

Good evening Llano Emmaus community. It has been a whirlwind of activities since I last reported.

The fundraiser dinner was a huge success. There are not enough words to express the outpouring of Agape Love given to the fundraiser. We raised over $14,000 in meal and raffle tickets. A heart felt thank you to the supporters of this worthy cause, and to the support group that tirelessly gave of yourselves serving the meals.

With that being said, as I peck away on the keyboard, we have a young ladies flight upcoming in 48 hours. Being led by Kelli Cool, we are at the minimum number of caterpillars so there is room for several more. Its all FREE, so get out and sponsor someone.

Also the young men’s walk is next weekend and it’s being led by Milton Schober. There is PLENTY of room for some young men. So far no one has signed up. So community now is the time to get out and beat the bushes for some caterpillars, remember it’s all FREE.

At Abernathy First United Church, we started a series of sermons based on our New Year’s resolutions. The series is titled ” One Word Resolution.” Pick one word out of the bible as your resolution. My word hit me between the eyes, as I was l pondering the sermon. That word is taken out of James 1:4 “Let PERSEVERANCE finish it’s work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”. The verses go on, and it gets pretty interesting from there. Basics for asking God, but you must believe in your asking’s, with no doubt.

As the new season is upon us, what will you ask God for and are you disciplined enough to accept that challenge? James 1:6 “But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind”

Chrysalis Dec 2016

david-huntHello community,

The Chrysalis community will be responsible for the service at our next community meeting. This Thursday night, December 1st, you will get to witness communion a little different from way we normally take communion. Mime communion, this is part of the chrysalis program that introduces caterpillars to GOD’S love. There is no telling how many of these communions I’ve witnessed, through previews, or communities. One thing I do know is, that everyone of them is thought provoking. By that communion as a whole is a very humbling experience. Can you, as a parent, give up one of your own to sacrifice for the sake of human kind?

When I came back from my walk fifteen years ago, communion was the ONE thing I looked forward to at my church. After visiting with my pastor about communion, he informed me that communion Sundays were the least attended. That was, and still is, hard to comprehend. Next time you’re at church, quietly observe the attendance.

To me communion Sunday, should be the time the parking lot is the fullest, not the emptiest. Which brings me back to whole jest of this note. Mime communion is very powerful way of showing GOD’S LOVE.

The chrysalis board will be around during the meeting, peddling raffle tickets and dinner tickets for our annual FUNDRAISER SUPPER. The money raised during this meal will help fund our flights for the upcoming year. By funding, I mean all caterpillars receive scholarships.

Upcoming flights – January 5-8 is college ladies, January 12-15 is college men.

Remember “the reason for the season.” Take time out of the hustle and bustle and read the Christmas story in the book of Matthew.

God bless,

Chrysalis Aug 2016

Kim Smith EmmausWhew! It’s been hot, hasn’t it? I’m so thankful it is only temporary, just like things of this world. So much is going on in the world today, it is easy to become anxious and worried about the future. As I read in my devotional book Jesus Calling, Jesus doesn’t just say do not worry, he commands us to not worry. As Corinthians 12:9 says,” But he said to me,’My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’  Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”  So as we finish out the summer of 2016, let’s remember to trust him one day at a time in our anxious moments.

We have some exciting events to look forward to; coming up next month, Yvonne Allred is gearing up for the Young Ladies Journey starting September 1-4. There is still room if you have a young lady between the ages of 18-25 wanting to be blessed. Applications can be downloaded from the Emmaus website and sent to Celia Miller. Likewise, Greg Schilling is preparing for the Young Men’s Journey starting September 15-18. There is room on that journey as well. Applications can be sent to Jonathan Bloxom. Please pray about those special young adults you can ask to go on these amazing journeys. All caterpillars are on scholarships, so money can’t be an issue.

Speaking of scholarships, please remember and mark your calendars for the annual Chrysalis fund raising dinner. It will be held on December 10, at the Bayer Crop Science Museum. Tickets are being printed as we speak. It is come and go from 5:00-8:30p.m. Tickets are $30 and you have a choice of Prime Rib, Pork Loin or Steak with all the fixings, drinks and entertainment. Please see any Chrysalis Board member more information. We can accommodate your office, family or reunion group Christmas party.

NEW this year will be a raffle with lots and lots of great items. The raffle will benefit the scholarship fund. Some items will include: a Traeger Grill, 12-gauge shotgun, a big DeWalt tool set, 120 pounds of hamburger meat, 24 steaks, 1 cooked prime rib, $300 worth of gift cards from Cabela’s, $150. Gift cert. from carpet tech, housecleaning, just to name a few. Tickets will be just $5.00 and any board member will be glad to give you more information. The Chrysalis board would love to thank you in advance for supporting the Chrysalis scholarship fund.

Please don’t hesitate to call me if you have any questions about any of this events.

Kim Smith EmmausHello, May!! I don’t know about you, but I am ready for warmer weather. I love the newness of all things, flowers blooming, grass turning green, trees coming out, birds singing, new calves running in the field, and sweet baby kittens. Yes, we live on a farm. New life, what a precious thing, not only in just being born, but reborn! Thank you Jesus, for loving us enough to die on the cross for us! Romans 5:8, ”But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

The chrysalis board are getting items together for a great raffle. We will have some big ticket items to be raffled off to raise money for our scholarship fund. As of right now, we have a Prime Rib Package, a Steak Package, a 360 lbs. ground meat package, a smoker/grill, and working on several more, big items. If you are interested in sponsoring an item, please let one of the board members know as soon as possible.

We are also getting plans together for our annual December fundraising meal. It will be held again at the Windmill Center on December 10th from 5 to 8. Get that on your calendar now! Prime rib, steak or pork loin, your choice, yum! If you have a business, group, or family gathering that would like to have the Christmas party at the dinner, we would love to serve you and make it something special for your group. We will decorate and serve, you just show up, what a deal!
